Coach Flowers will be entering his 14th season as a Bixby Spartan Football Coach. This will be his 12th season as defensive coordinator. Coach Flowers also coaches outside linebackers.
Coach Flowers has led the Spartan defense to seven 6A-II state championships in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, and three 6A-1 state championships in 2022, 2023, and 2024. In 2024, Coach Flowers was awarded the Broyles Award for Assistant Coach of the Year for Oklahoma High Schools.
Before coming to Bixby, Coach Flowers spent six years in Sulphur Springs, TX as the defensive line coach. While in Sulphur Springs, the Wildcats were 2007 District Champions, 2008 4A D-II State Champions, 2009 State Semi-Finalists, 2010 Regional Finalists, and 2011 Bi-District Champs. During his time there, he coached in the 2008 ESPN Thursday Night Lights game and the 2011 ESPN Saturday Night High School Kickoff Classic.
Coach Flowers holds a Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Southern Nazarene University and a Master’s Degree in Sports Administration from East Central University.
Coach Flowers has been married for 26 years to his wife Amber, an Assistant Principal at Bixby Central Elementary School. Rodney and Amber have an 18 year-old daughter, Aubrey, who is s freshman at OSU, a 16 year-old son, Kaiden, and an 14 year-old son, Landry.
